WORK EXPERIENCE

One of my friends was talking about his work experience earlier. He’s currently working at a Car-Brake manufacturer in Wales…It made me start thinking again about my work experience…I had ALOT of fun.

I worked at “Alan’s Test Centre”…An MOT garage in Mansfield. I loved every second of working there (Except for when I wasn’t doing anything or fucked up)
My job was to sit in the car being MOT’d, then when asked, start the engine, operate the brakes, steering, lights, and basically, all the systems used in a car to drive it whilst it was on the SWL Ramp/lift…Though, the closest I got to driving a car was revving a 2004 Mini as part of the emitions test…the accelerator was surprisingly light, even for my weedy 15 year old legs, I was asked to idle the engine at about 3,000 revs, one touch on the pedal and it was straight up to 6,000 near enough! Another job I had to do was was help inspect the steering, and put the probe in the exhaust for the emitions test.

We saw some interesting cars whilst working there, the first car I helped MOT was a 1999 Ford Focus Saloon, in aqua/turquoise I believe…It passed, it was in VERY good condition!
I also MOT’d a 2004 Bentley Continental GT…It was VERY nice, I remember when taken for a quick spin in it (this was the only way to test the brakes) the acceleration was extreme, I seemed to be pushed firmly in the back of my seat whilst Chris, the mechanic bentleydrove forwards at about 50mph, not bad to say the road was only 100 metres-ish long! Though, the Bentley failed! Why? The tyres…It had a bulge on the tyre sidewall, that was scraping along the inside of the wheel arch. Never good, especially seeing as it was highly likely that the car tyre would soon be bursting if left alone!

Oh, the good old days! Part of me wishes I was on Work Experience forever!
